Dear Mark and Jovius,

 

My question pertains to tithing.  For quite some time in my past, as a very religious person, I tithed 10% of my gross income mostly out of duty and fear that some kind of curse would happen in my life if I didn't (silly I know..).  One of my spiritual friends shared with me the other day that she began tithing 10% not too long ago as an experiment and not only has her income increased, she's totally at peace where money is concerned.

 

I left organized religion behind about two years ago and tithing along with it.. I DO give monetarily as well as my time but not 10% like I used to.  I'm curious as to what Jovius has to say about giving and tithing.

Tithing, like anything, has an energetic release that will elicit a response.  If you are to give of your heart and want to give because it feels good to you, you will create goodness and love.  If you are giving because you are being told to do so, you are not giving with the same loving energy.  You are then giving from another emotion.  If this emotion is fear, or resentment, you are not exactly creating with the love you have, but with another less empowered emotion.  It is all about what you have to give from yourself and money is just a physical representation.  There are many groups that expect money and it has nothing to do with love.  This is not to say that some can not give to those groups and feel joy.  It is all about who you are and what your expectations and intentions are.  You know who you are and what it will take for you to feel that love come back.  A percentage is only important if you think it is.  Give freely when you are in a place of love and know that whatever it is, be it money, or something other, it will be sent out with great power for that is what the heart is,.  Your power..

I once heard an author suggest that rather than wait until the last minute to pay bills and then curse the companies all during the process, it produces a much more positive vibration to pay them as soon as they come in and bless each check, or electronic payment you send out.  Saying something like, "I bless this money and send it off to the Universe to do good things for others and to keep abundance constantly flowing throughout my physical experience."
